Drinking in the Summer

Typically, as TCM practitioners, we advocate a warm food and drink diet as it is easier for your body to digest. However, during the summer months our bodies can metabolize fresh fruits and cooler liquid to replenish fluids.

Agua Fresca is a Mexican drink that means 'fresh water' that is made from water and fresh fruit or vegetables.

Here is a great Chinese Medicine twist on the aqua fresca:

  • 8 - 12 cups of water

  • 1 large cucumber

  • 1 lemon

  • 2 tbsp of chopped peppermint [or mint/spearmint]

  • Handful of fresh sage

  • 1 -2 tbsp of organic brown sugar or honey

In a blender combine water, sugar, cucumber and peppermint. Puree until smooth. Pour mixture (through a sieve, if desired) into a pitcher.

For the peppermint and sage, ensure you bruise the leaves (rub the leaves back and forth in palms of your hands for 10 seconds) to extract the essential oil
