Why We Stepped Away from Insurance

After years of working within the insurance system, we started seeing billing and compensation counter to our clinic’s mission.

We learned that AI is being used increasingly and is making decisions about your coverage in place of actual people, even denying treatments outright. Meanwhile, insurance companies have reduced what they pay practitioners while expecting offices to spend more time on paperwork and billing.

We decided we'd rather put our energy into what matters most! That is, nurturing you and giving you the care you need and deserve. By stepping away from insurance, we can do that.
We know healthcare costs are a real concern, and we aim to stay as accessible as possible. While we don't bill insurance directly anymore, we're happy to provide Superbills so you can submit for potential out-of-network reimbursement. If you’d like Superbills, let us know and we’ll happily provide them.

As a small, woman-owned small business, we're very grateful for your understanding.

Superbills 101
At the root & the branch, we want you to feel nurtured & supported both inside and outside of the treatment room. Unfortunately, we know that navigating insurance is neither a nurturing nor supportive experience. That said, getting proper reimbursement from your insurance provider is something we’d like to facilitate. Even though our clinic is no longer billing insurance, we do provide Superbills, itemized receipts, for insurance reimbursement.

What is a Superbill?
A Superbill is an itemized receipt that includes the details of your visit necessary for processing insurance reimbursement. It includes things like diagnosis codes, procedure codes, and the cost of the visit.

How Our Superbills Work
If you’d like to receive Superbills, just let us know! We will then include the necessary codes within your receipt after each visit.
Most insurance companies allow you to submit Superbills through their member portal, mobile app, or even by mailing it. Each company may be a little different, so be sure to check with your insurance provider.
Quick Tips
Before submitting Superbills, contact your insurance provider. Important questions to ask are:
-
Does my plan include out of network acupuncture benefits?
-
What is the allowed amount for codes 97810 & 97811?
-
What is the % of reimbursement per code?
-
Is there a deductible I need to meet first?
*When submitting Superbills, don’t wait to do it! It’s best submit a few visits at a time.
