Acupuncture for Depression & Anxiety

Millions of Americans suffer from anxiety and/or depression. In fact, they are the two most common mental health issues people face.  In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we do not differentiate between pain of the body and pain of the spirit. That is to say, emotions and their proper regulation is given the same importance as physical pain or any symptoms of disharmony or disease. In fact, unregulated or unmanaged emotions are considered both a cause and a symptom of imbalance.

Anxiety and depression can arise from several Chinese medicine diagnoses and are only made worse with poor lifestyle and/or nutrition choices.  Our practitioners work with these clients to address their Chinese medicine diagnosis with acupuncture, nutrition and lifestyle recommendations, and likely herbs and supplements,  Chinese medicine can work in beautiful partnership with Western medicine approaches including antidepressants, anxiolytics, talk therapy and behavior modification.

Of course your practitioner will need to know all medications being taken so she can safely and thoughtfully utilize Chinese herbs if warranted.   While Chinese herbs are generally safe and well tolerated, they are powerful, and caution must be exercised especially when Western drugs are also in use.
